Swappin Seeds

In the afterglow of all the Christmas exchanges, the seed exchange from Heirloom Seed Swap guarantees you won't end up with some crazy sweater or a scale (seriously, someone brought scales to our exchange last night - and not a cool weigh-your-wheat one - an actual bathroom scale)

The Seed Swap site has some awesome post-apocalyptic goodies:

Red Russian Tobacco - you know that's going to be a major trade item for all the smokers who burned their last pack.

Heirloom Butternut Squash  - the trader says this one grows well in the city - anytime you can pick up a hearty seed, it's a good idea

Apricots - I'm amazed at how quickly these grow and bear fruit

All the trades are FREE - pretty great resources too, and people looking for the seeds out of your garden.

You may not be able to trade the ugly sweater - maybe if you call it a survival sweater??

A Social Network Christmas

Watched this in church Sunday. Another powerful message for my Monday morning.

Did you know Joseph planned on divorcing Mary when he found out she was pregnant? What a different story today would be....

Merry Christmas...and To All A Good Night.

Pay it Forward.

Wow, what a whirlwind month! Is Christmas really in TWO days??

(THE TREE IS UP, BTW!)

Because I'm a genius when it comes to scheduling, I added 'polishing the manuscript,' 'submit the manuscript,' and 'get a new job' to the list of things I wanted to accomplish in December. Guess where that stuck Christmas shopping, (not to mention blogging)?

Thank you internet - and overnight shipping!

In all the craziness of this month, it's been easy for me to forget what Christmas is all about. Somewhere along the way, a marketing guru thought it would be fun to commercialize the holiday, and now we all spend way too much money, way too much effort, and way too much time on giving THINGS instead of what the people in our lives really want - more of us.

Yesterday was the Worlds Largest Pay It Forward. (yes, I should have given you a bit of advanced warning)

AND, you can still be involved.

Go sign up at www.thecardthatpaysitforward.org or on the facebook page, get your card, start doing amazing things for others, and see where your card goes, and how people pay your good deed forward.

Have an amazing Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Saturday. Whatever this season means to you, pay it forward, and stay out of the malls. All your family really wants is more of your time, and you can't gift wrap it.

I love and adore you. Thanks for journeying with me.

Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men

It's not an unfamiliar term, "Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men," but until Sunday, I hadn't heard this song, which references another Christmas Carol and the lyric.

Words and music by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow & John Marks

Disinfecting Water

Clean Drinking Water Using the Simple Solar Water Disinfection Method

According to a great article in the CS Montior last week, the WHO is recommending this simple method to create clean drinking water for the masses in danger of contracting Cholera. Using the Simple Solar Water Disinfection creates clean viable drinking water within 24 hours with only the initial cost of the bottle.

Bounce House Chapter 3

If you've missed the earlier Friday posts, you can start here, or for the end of Chapter 2. If you've been following along, I changed the main character's name to Ben Snow.

Winter Gardening

DIY PVC Cold Storage Greenhouse

I just found this video on YouTube - my favorite method of procrastinating these days. I am so excited about this project!! I could garden all winter! I was so sad when I had to pull up all the tomato plants, and though I left the onions out there, I don't think they're wintering very well (like the books said they would). Not to mention, I'm not a big fan of digging through 8" of snow for an onion.

TEKS Safety Course

I was invited to check out the TEK-S Safety Training Course, and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed.

Tek-s (Training. Education. Knowledge. Service) was founded to address the growing need for personal and practical safety training, based on situational awareness.

My interpretation of 'situational awareness' is: anytime, everywhere, taking in your surroundings. But then what? What would I do if I became aware of a dangerous situation?

How Many Phone Chargers Do I Need?

Wow. Not only did 2010 FLY by, but now my weeks are escaping me.

Apologies for the MAJOR radio silence!! I promise I'm back to your regularly scheduled program.

I'm a huge fan of all things electronic - - which makes thinking about the end of the world or TEOTWAWKI (TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt) kind of a bummer. In July, I said goodbye to my Blackberry ways and picked up the new Droid. It's the reason I'll never go green until the sun explodes. My entire life is in there - seriously - I can't function without it. I thought my Mac passion was bad - - it has nothing on the droid.

Where The Hell Did 2010 Go?

I don't think it's possible to sum up how behind I am.

It's December 1 and I don't even have the Christmas decorations down from the rafters. The Christmas cards started arriving last week, and while I did manage to gather us for a family photo, that picture is stuck in the iphoto on the computer.

Last year I managed to put together some super cute calendars together for grandmas, aunties, and dad. Since I'm struggling to get the Christmas card together, I doubt I'm going to find the time for the calendar.

Seriously? Where in the world did this year go???? Where did last week go?

I stumbled over to Shutterfly and checked out this year's collection of cards. I got sucked in. In about three seconds I found fifty I'm totally in love with. Now what? I only have about 45 people on my list. Do I get 5 of each card and send them to random strangers? I don't remember the design section of shutterfly being so easy last year, but it honestly took me longer to write this post than it did to design the cards.

What do you think?

OR

PS...that's not my family... I can't figure out how to save mine over here....

I keep picking out the brown cards - is that Christmas-y??

Ok, off to order them...I hope. Maybe I'll get them sent out before the holidays are over. Maybe if I can get them ordered tonight I'll use all the photos I already uploaded to slap together a few calendars.
